Before long, the property of American citizens was being destroyed by German naval fire, and sailors went to far to go ashore and tear apart an American flag. President Grover Cleavland repsonded by sending American warships to protect his countrymen. A great naval battle was about to commence, when a hurricane blew in, scattering ships and sinking others. Both American and German sailors found themselves being rescued from the sea by their enemies. After the storm, the German ships returned home, and Samoa became an American protectorate. The Real Cold War

Most Americans have no idea that the United States and Russia did openly engage each other in war. In 1918, about 11,000 American soldiers and Marines were sent to Russia to support what remained of the Czarist Russian army, where (in future irony) they joined Japanese troops fighting in support of the Czarist forces. In September of 1918, 7000 Marines landed in Vladivostok, and shortly thereafter, 4000 soldiers arrived in the far north of Russia, where British troops were already fighting the Bolshevik army. It was not until 1920 that Woodrow Wilson decided that he could not stop the Bolshevik takeover and quitely withdrew all American forces from Russia. American involvment in the Russian Revolution was well remembered in Russia, especially during the Cold War, even though it has been nearly forgotten in the United States. The number of American dead has still not been officially released to the American public.

Welwitschia Mirabilis: world's most resistant plant

It's not pretty to look at, but Namibia's plant Welwitschia Mirabilis can truly claim to be one of a kind. There really is nothing like it. Welwitschia plant consists of only two leaves and a sturdy stem with roots. That's all! Two leaves continue to grow until they resemble the shaggy mane of some sci-fi alien. The stem thickens, rather than gains in height, and can grow to be almost 2 meters high and 8 meters wide. Their estimated lifespan is 400 to 1500 years. It can survive up to five years with no rain. The plant is said to be very tasty either raw or baked in hot ashes, and this is how it got its other name, onyanga, which means onion of the desert.

Interesting watermelon facts

Watermelon is thought to have originated in the Kalahari Desert of Africa. The watermelon was brought into America across the Atlantic oceans by African slaves.

By the 1600′s, watermelon made it’s way to Spain, China, Great Britain, and even farther beyond.

The flowering watermelon plant produces a fruit called by botanists “pepo” .

Watermelons are more than 90% water.

Watermelon is actually a vegetable and not a fruit. It is also related to the pumpkin, cucumber and the squash. Watermelon’s official name is Citrullus Lanatus of the botanical family Curcurbitaceae.

The 1996 Guiness Book of Records lists the largest watermelon as being 262 pounds!

Over 1,200 varieties of watermelon are grown worldwide.

The watermelon is very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Potassium, and a very good source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

A whole cup of watermelon contains only 48 calories.

Solar radiation rate

Solar radiation reaches a unit of space near the Earth’s orbit at a rate of 1,366 W/m² (Watt per square metre), as measured upon a surface normal (at a right angle) to the Sun. This number is the "solar constant". Of this energy, about 19% is absorbed by the atmosphere, and clouds reflect a further 35% of the total solar energy. Therefore solar energy received a sea level is much less. Its peak power is generally accepted to be 1,020 W/m².

The engine start with turning handle. Motorcycle was equipped with two extra wheels, one on either side of the knee axis, and the entire engine was placed inside the aluminum shaft.

Such a precarious ride, are further added then the roads which are not even resemble the present.

Since it was a true visionary, Daimler has decided to focus attention on the production of "horseless carriages" - forerunner of the modern car - so that the "Petroleum Rajtvagen" is left forgotten in a place where still can be seen, the museum „Daimler – Benz“ in the German city of Stuttgart.

The Longest Film Ever Made

The longest film ever made according to Yahoo.com is The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple, which clocks in at 27 hours long. The film was never shown in its entirety due to its length. Instead it was split into 18 features that were shown from 1928 through 1931. Even though the film was split, it was produced as one major film as a whole. I wonder if anyone here at Spill can sit here in a cinema for 27 hours watching a film that's in black and white. Some consider The Cure For Insomnia to be the longest film ever produced with a running time of 87 hours, but the film has no plot. With no plot/charecters it really isn't considered a film. It consists of a man reading a poem throughout the movie with occasional clips of pornography and heavy metal.

Strongest beer in the world

The strongest and most expensive beer in the world called "The End of History", has 55% alcohol. Bottles of 330 milliliters cost 765 dollars, and makes with technique of extreme freezing.
One of the founders of the British company "BrewDog" witch producing it, James Vat said: "This beer marks the end of all other beers".
Last year the company has been criticized because it is produced, beer from 32% alcohol, but started the race for high-alcoholic beer, so then a German brewery produced beer from 40% alcohol, then on market appeared "Sink The Bismark" with 41% alcohol.
Somewhat unclear what all of this. because the beer is very popular because you can drink a bottle or two, and still be able to keep irrelevant discussions. However, although the "end of history" may be the beginning of a new philosophy for the beer you will need considerably more money than now, and these specimens of 765 dollars they found their customers - were sold for 12 bottles (the first two Danes), the following will be delivered in the U.S., Canada, Italy ... It tastes like whiskey and so it should consume - carefully.
It is interesting that this beer is rated as most shocking. For bottles, was use of several animals killed on the road: four squirrels, seven weasels and wild rabbit.

Women spend 7920 minutes a year having objections to its partners, mainly due to domestic duties, alcohol consumption and health, the result of the survey, which was organized in England published in June 2010, and attended by 3,000 participants. It was found that women criticize the partners an average of two and a half hours a week, or 11 hours per month. The largest number of objections related to the daily tasks at home, and then the following complaints for excessive drink and watching sports transmission and in the end because men typically avoid visits to the doctor. Skeletal Facts

Big collection of human skeletal facts for kids.

The largest bone of the human skeletal system is the pelvis bone or hip bone. The pelvis is made up of six bones that are joined to each other firmly.

Your nose and ears are not made up of bones. They are made up of cartilage or 'gristle'. It is more lighter and flexible than the bone. Try bending your ear and nose, you will be able to bend them with ease.

Ever wondered, why skeletons have their ears and noses missing? Well, the cartilage in the ears and nose decompose quickly than the bones, thus, leaving the poor skull without ears and nose.

There are 27 bones in the human hand and 14 bones make up your face.

The number of bones in your neck and the number of bones in a giraffe's neck is the same! Do you want to know more about the neck. The article on anatomy of neck will prove useful.

There are about 230 movable and semi-movable joints in your body.

The only bone without a joint is your body is the hyoid bone present in your throat.

Did you know your height depends on the growth of your bones. If you are a girl, your bones will keep growing till you are about 16 years old and the bones of boys grow till they are about 18 years old. Therefore, if you wish to be a tall individual, it is very important to eat healthy foods and drink as your bones need nourishment to grow. If you give your bones the right nourishment, they will grow well, making you tall and good looking.

When you were born you had about 350 brand new bones. Now if you could peek inside yourself you'd count around 206 or so. That's 90 less then what you started with. You know darn well you haven't had any surgery that removed 90 of your bones, and you also know that you were born perfectly healthy. This truly is a mystery, and now you're curious. Well actually it really isn't all that much of a mystery. Many of our bones simply fuse together throughout out lifespan. Part of the reason this happens is so those bones fusing together, can perform the functions we need as adults, which we didn't require as children.

Of the 206 bones in the skeletal system, 52 of them make both our feet.

Our bone is six times stronger than steel if both are of the same weight.

Some of the bones in a child's skeleton are made of cartilage. As children  grow, bone tissue replaces the cartilage. Children's skeletons continue to grow and change until they are about 25 years old.

Unlike an adult skull, the bones of an infant's  skull are separate. The bones eventually grow together as the child develops and immovable joints hold the skull bones together.

A baby's  skeleton is made of about 300 bones at birth. By the time a child reaches adulthood, many of the bones that were separate have fused together. As a result, the adult skeleton has only 206 bones.

Broken bones range from a hairline fracture to a complete fracture, where the bone is broken into two separate pieces. According to KidsHealth, a bowing fracture is a type of fracture that occurs only in children; the bone bends but does not break.

In the Pediatrics article, "Physical Activity and Bone Measures in Young Children: The Iowa Bone Development Study," researchers correlated physical activity to bone-mineral density in young children ages 4 to 6. Children who were more physically active had greater bone mass than their less-active peers. Increased bone mass can result in fewer broken bones.

* Can instantaneously set in motion hundreds of muscles and organs in your body.

* In a normal life-span, will bring you almost 24 million images of the world around you.

* The adult eyeball measures about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. Of its total surface area only one-sixth is exposed -- the front portion.

* The eye is the only part of the human body that can function at 100% ability at any moment, day or night, without rest. Your eyelids need rest, the external muscles of your eyes need rest, the lubrication of your eyes requires replenishment, but your eyes themselves "never" need rest. But please rest them!

* Eyes are your most precious sense... care for them properly!

* Your eyes are the most complex organs you possess except for your brain.

* Your eyes are composed of more than 2 million working parts

* The average person blinks 12 times per minute - about 10,000 blinks in an average day

* Your eyes can process 36,000 bits of information every hour.

* Only 1/6th of your eyeball is exposed to the outside world

* The external muscles that move the eyes are the strongest muscles in the human body for the job that they have to do. They are 100 times more powerful than they need to be.

* Color blind people do see color but confuse certain colors in certain conditions.

* Red and Green are the most commonly confused colours among colour blind people.

* Color blindness is 10 times more common in males than females

* Your eyelids and  the external muscles of your eyes need rest, the lubrication of your eyes requires replenishment, but your eyes themselves never need rest.

* Your eyelashes have an average life span of 5 months.

* The eyeball of a human weighs approximately 28 grams.

* The eye of a human can distinguish 500 shades of the gray.

* People generally read 25% slower from a computer screen than from paper.

* Men are able to read fine print better than women can.

* The reason why your nose gets runny when you are crying is because the tears from the eyes drain into the nose.

* It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open.

* The space between your eyebrows is called the Glabella.

* Your eye will focus on about 50 things per second.

* Your retina contains 120 million rods for "night vision", and 8 million cones that are colour sensitive and work best under daylight conditions.

* Your Eyes contribute towards 85% of your total knowledge.

* About half of our brain is involved in the seeing process. Humans are very much visual animals.

* Under the right conditions, the human eye can see the light of a candle at a distance of 14 miles.

* That modern cataract operations have been made possible thanks to the second world war? Sir Harold Ridley, who was an ophthalmic surgeon in London, found that pilots came back from their missions with little pieces of perspex in their eye(shattered screens of the planes they were flying in), to which the eye did not seem to "object": no inflammation of any significance was found in their eye. This material was modified and further developed into artificial lenses that are used in cataract operations.

* Eyes can be transplanted.
