The Roman emperor Trajan conquered Dacia (in today's Romania) 102 e.d. and destroyed almost the entire local population, and settled its soldiers who have completed service in Dacia, and given the country name Rom-Ania, which means land of the Romans. So todays Romanians are descendants of those Romans.
This is the biggest lie I've ever heard. I'm romanian and I know my country's history.
ReplyDelete"The Roman emperor Trajan conquered Dacia (in today's Romania) 102 e.d."
FALSE! Romania is much smaller than Dacia in that period (however, the conquered territory was like 1/4). Also, Dacia became roman province in 106, after two hard wars (101 - 102 and 105-106)
"and destroyed almost the entire local population, and settled its soldiers who have completed service in Dacia"
FALSE! They didn't destroy anything. They brought romanian colonists and administration. The natives asimilated the language, the culture and so on forming a new daco-romanian population.
"and given the country name Rom-Ania, which means land of the Romans. So todays Romanians are descendants of those Romans"
FALSE AGAIN! The army and the administartion was retreated from Dacia in 273 leaving behind a romanised population. This population organised in tribes, formed a new language (Romanian) and culture getting also influences from other migrators.
So, romanians are the descendatns of both romans and dacs.
You can read about all this history here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacia
I've made a misteake in the last comment. (second paragraph) They brought roman colonists, not romanian.
