Deepest hole ever drilled
The deepest hole ever drilled by man is the Kola Superdeep Borehole, in Russia. It reached a depth of 12,261 meters (about 40,226 feet or 7.62 miles). It was drilled for scientific research and gave up some unexpected discoveries, one of which was a huge deposit of hydrogen – so massive that the mud coming from the hole was “boiling” with it. The borehole is pictured above.

The above image is NOT the Kola hole...looks ike a pit mine somewhere. Kola's biggest visual feature is a large vertical tower that enclosed the drilling equipment - the holes drilled were mostly between three feet and nine inches across. see a pic at:

True that isn't the Kola hole. That picture above is more reminisant of the Kilgoorlie Gold mine in Australia but similar not the mine itself.
Yes in fact that picture is the deepest MINE in the world, which by the way is 2.4 miles deep. either way nice article

If that was a picture of av bore hole it would sure be at least the biggest one. Would have to be one massive drill :)
this is the city of Mirny and its mine for the extraction of diamonds!
